Today in West Civ we had a little time in the beginning to do what we want. Mr. Schick also gave us a pop quiz I probably failed. I hate when we have pop quizzes and they hurt my grade. This is going to hurt my grade and that really can't happen. Overall, I did not like class today at all.

Today in West Civ we watched a video on Rome. This video was all about Tibious and how his father died and he is taking over now. It tells us in the beginning that Tibious doesn't know but he will die in 20 years by being murdered by the aristocrats. He was later murdered because he started a revolution in Rome. The video also showed how aristocrats could just take poor people's land. Furthermore, Tibious did not like that. Overall, I liked the video so far.

- In 31 bc the first fire happened there was a total of three fires
- It was rebuilt by Augustus
- Second fire in 64 AD

Circus Maximus
- Romulus started the chariot races there, however they were said to be distracting because no one would focus on anything else than the chariot races
- Races took place on both sides of the Aventine and Palatine hills
- it is thought to be found in the 6th century by Tarquinius Priscus and the fifth king of Rome
- There were three fires that burnt the circus Maximus it burnt because it was made out of wood and wood is very flamable
- There were also other things besides chariot races in the Circus Maximus

Today in class we tried researching about four different places in Rome. Sky and I did the research together, however when it came to citing our sources it was very hard. We found a very good knowledgeble cite however the sources were mostly books. Therefore we would have to go to the book and get the information out of the book that we want and its a big process. However, I also learned that .edu and .gov websites are the best to use. Overall, today I learned a lot in class.

However, they were abandoned and sent down a river. Then all the sudden a she-wolf saved them and raised the kids. Later on a Shepard and his wife found the boys and then the boys were natural leaders. They went back and killed the person who abandoned them and then fought over which hill they would have. Today in West Civ we watched a video on the allegory of Plato. This video was confusing, however I got most of the video and what it meant. These people were in the basement and couldn't move their heads. However, one day someone let one free and he looked in the light and was almost blinded. He then reported back to the other people and they told him he was silly and to stop. The reason he did this was because they had been taught that it was dark and that nothing else was out there. Overall, this video was really confusing but good.

Socrates was a Greek philosopher born in 407 BC in Athens, Greece. Socrates invented the Socratic method which was to ask and answer questions. Socrates was also sentenced to death for false teachings and corrupting the youth. Socrates could have escaped however, he didn't and stood up for what he believed in. If I was him I would have just escaped. However, he taught us to never give up and to stand up for what you believe in. Overall, Socrates was a great example to all people.

Gabriella Spilker Cyber Day
For our blog today we have to write down five technological inventions we thought were important and why.
1. Ancient Egyptian Writing- This was one of the most important things. They started with drawing pictures on the inside of caves, and then eventually hieroglyphics. These were just like letter s and words. Without the Egyptians we would have letters or words.
2. The Calender- We wouldn't know when anything was or what day it was without the calender. Back when the Egyptians made the calender they used it to know when the Nile was going to flood every year, and for other things like that. Today we use a calender to know what day it is, and to know when things are.
3. Eye makeup- The Egyptians wore eye makeup like we wear sunglasses. Both men and women wore Eye makeup. This makeup helped keep the sin out of their eyes while working outside. Furthermore, we still use eye makeup today!
4. The door lock- Believe it or not the Egyptian are the ones who invented the door lock. When they invented the door lock it was with a key to unlock and lock the door. Furthermore, now all we have to do is turn the lock on the door to lock it. However, who would have know it was from the Egyptians.
5. Haircut and Shaving- Back then they thought hair was nasty and dirty, so they used to cut it off. In ancient Egyptian time having short hair and shaving was fashionable. I couldn't imagine people now a days not being able to shave or get their haircut regularly.

Tdoay in West Civ we reviewed for our test on Monday. We have a test Monday on the movie guns, germs, and steal. The main over view of the movie was that they weren't geographically blessed. Not being geographically blessed meaned that there were no domesticated animals, or food. They were eating sago and bananas they didn't have food like we do today. Today in West Civ we continued watching the movie. We mostly talked about domesticated animals. There are 14 main animals they are goats, sheep, pigs, cows, horse, donkey, bactrcian camels, Arabian camels, water buffalo, llamas, reindeer, yaks, mithons, and bali cattle. None of these animals were from Australia, Africa, or North America. The llama was from South America. Furthermore, some animals in the middle east were the cows, pigs, goats, and sheep. It was said that the middle east was geographically blessed.

West Civ
Today in West Civ we continued to watch the movie we started. Some facts I learned were about the food and who grew what . For example, China grew rice. Furthermore, the Americans grew squash, corn, and beans. Africa grew milit, yams, and surgaum. Also some areas were great geographically were wheat was growing and other great crops. However, there were also places where there was nothing but some bananas and spiders to eat. The motto back then was the more productive crops the more productive civilization. Overall, I learned a lot even thought we didn't get to watch the video a lot today.

West Civ
Today in West Civ we watched a movie called, Guns, Germs, and Steal. This movie was based in Papuanewguina this is a remote island near Australia. These people there that are living like we did in the Neolithic age. It was so weird seeing people live that way when we don't. They also had this thing where the white man always has a lot of cargo and we don't. It was strange to hear the people in the video say that. However, if you put us out in the woods and stuff like they are we could never build a house or get enough food to eat. Where as the newguineans could do that and are very talented people. Overall, I really like the movie and I can't wait to see more .

West Civ
Today in West Civ we continued with the early humans. We focused more on where they lived today. There was a district known as Sumer that was located between the Tigris and Euphrates river. When people start to figure out irrigation and other things the population grew by a lot. The Sumerians are the first people who invented the first known form of writing, cuneiform. They also believed in many Gods. When it rained they thought it was the rain God and when it didn't they thought the rain God was mad at them. The Sumerians also invented the first calender Furthermore, they invented time too. On the other hand, they built a temple on a mountain called the Ziggurat. This was for the Gods. Later in Mesopotamia wondering nomads drove domesticated animals south of Sumer in Arabia. King Hammurabi of Babylon created a series of laws known as "Hammurabi's Code." These laws include an "an eye for an eye" and regulations of marriage, divorce, and punishments for all sorts of crimes. As people and places expanded thee were Indo. Indo were Europeans from the grasslands of the Russian steppe who introduced the horse to the Near East. They settled in Asia Minor. Overall, i learned a lot about Mesopotamia in this one class.
