West Civ
Today in West Civ we continued with the early humans. We focused more on where they lived today. There was a district known as Sumer that was located between the Tigris and Euphrates river. When people start to figure out irrigation and other things the population grew by a lot. The Sumerians are the first people who invented the first known form of writing, cuneiform. They also believed in many Gods. When it rained they thought it was the rain God and when it didn't they thought the rain God was mad at them. The Sumerians also invented the first calender Furthermore, they invented time too. On the other hand, they built a temple on a mountain called the Ziggurat. This was for the Gods. Later in Mesopotamia wondering nomads drove domesticated animals south of Sumer in Arabia. King Hammurabi of Babylon created a series of laws known as "Hammurabi's Code." These laws include an "an eye for an eye" and regulations of marriage, divorce, and punishments for all sorts of crimes. As people and places expanded thee were Indo. Indo were Europeans from the grasslands of the Russian steppe who introduced the horse to the Near East. They settled in Asia Minor. Overall, i learned a lot about Mesopotamia in this one class.
